Cartilaginous fish are vertebrates that have cartilage, instead of normal bones. Some cartilaginous fish are sharks, skates, rays, and chimaeras. Sharks have teeth to rip apart their prey and are considered the largest of the cartilaginous fish. Rays and skates aren't as aggressive as sharks. They are usually bottom feeders with bodies that have large wings to help them glide through the water, and a tail that is used to change directions. Chimaeras are similar to sharks, but they lack a shark's teeth, having instead just three pairs of large permanent grinding tooth plates.
